Opportunity

Since Jayden's heart transplant in 2019, he has delivered numerous talks on behalf of Donate Life, with schools increasingly requesting presentations. These sessions are engaging and thought-provoking, eliciting strong reactions from students and receiving overwhelmingly positive feedback from educators.
While in-person presentations are highly impactful, they are not always practical, particularly in remote areas. In addition to more face-to-face presentations, Forever Grateful seeks to develop video content specifically designed for the 16-18-year-old student demographic, drawing on direct experience engaging with this audience. The content will align with the OTA’s national education strategy and will be distributed directly to schools.
To support the OTA’s crucial mandate of raising awareness, encouraging family discussions, and increasing donor registrations, Forever Grateful propose a multi-format approach. The core content would be a long-form documentary-style video, suitable for schools without access to facilitators, especially in rural areas. This can serve as a turnkey resource, while shorter vignettes will complement in-person talks, enhance educational tools, and be shared on social media.
We propose a minimum of 15 (fifteen) videos in total.
Storytelling has a unique ability to educate, inspire, and drive meaningful action. This approach would ensure consistent, impactful messaging that resonates with younger viewers by choosing the right talent, language, visuals, and tone.
High-Level Narrative Structure:
-
Awareness & Statistics
Begin with a wide lens, presenting national statistics on organ donation to establish the urgency. Highlight the number of people waiting for transplants and the life-saving impact of donor registrations. Emphasise the pivotal role families play in the decision-making process and how simple conversations about organ donation can significantly improve outcomes. This segment appeals to empathy, challenging students to reflect on the life-or-death stakes faced by those on waiting lists today.

-
Personal Journey
Bring the statistics to life with a personal story. In Jayden's case, he shares the emotional and physical challenges of waiting for a heart transplant while raising a son close in age to the students. He recounts the uncertainty, the strain of life on the transplant list, and the transformative moment of receiving “the call.” He highlights the paradox of organ donation - how hope and tragedy intertwine. By expressing his gratitude to his donor and their family, Jayden showcases the profound impact of this gift and the second chances it offers. This personal connection humanises the message, making it deeply relatable and memorable.
-
The Call to Action
Conclude by focusing on the universal significance of organ donation. It is a profoundly selfless act that transcends race, creed, class, age, colour, and gender - a gift of life from one person to another. Encourage students to have open conversations with their families about their wishes, explaining that these discussions play a critical role in increasing donor registrations and saving lives.
This video content would serve as a dynamic, versatile resource, enhancing in-person talks and ensuring the message of organ donation reaches and resonates with students across Australia, no matter their location.
